The Teacher opens the door, but you must walk through it yourself

Umar Ali Nawab
The Hero's journey can take you around the world, but always brings you back home

The Ordinary World
-
I am based in Oxfordshire, UK, having spent most of my adult life working in a small, quiet town in the educational sector. It was a good life — steady, familiar, safe, but something in me was restless for a world beyond it.
The Call to Adventure
-
Eventually, I left teaching in the U.K to teach internationally — in China, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Belgium. For over ten years, I dedicated myself to Yoga and Breathwork, quietly honing skills for a calling I didn't yet understand I was being prepared for.
Crossing the Threshold
-
The threshold came in Bali, in 2023 — the land of gods and goddesses. What began as a trip became an unravelling. I crossed from the world I knew into a world I didn't: the interior one. It was there I first understood how much of my life had been lived entirely in my head.
The Belly of the Whale
-
The lotus flower — the very symbol of my own growth — had also kept me disconnected from my body, carrying unresolved trauma inside like a wound that never fully closed. Suppressed emotions became a sealed chamber, a locked door. A dysregulated nervous system became the dragon that lived, quietly, in the body itself.
The Underworld
-
This was the shadow terrain — the abyss stage. Not a place I chose to enter, but one I had to pass through, because that is exactly where the treasure is hidden: integration, and wholeness. I learned, slowly, that taming a dragon isn't done through combat. It's done by staying — by learning to be with it until it settles. That stillness is its own kind of victory.
The False Elixir
-
For a long time, I mistook the fight for the healing. I believed that constantly chasing catharsis — big, dramatic releases, vanquishing the dragon in one blow — would be the thing that finally closed the story. But without support, without grounding, without the slow work of integration, none of it ever truly landed in the body. It is the mistake I now watch for most closely in others, because I lived it first.
Allies and Tests
-
The road less travelled led me deeper: Breathwork, Somatic Yoga, EMDR, Kundalini, Psychosomatic Therapy, Reiki, Ruqya, Qi Gong. Each an ally, they became my armour — whenever upheaval rose from within, or a challenge struck from outside, these tools came to my rescue. These tools kept me connected to the body even when the old stories returned, and they always did return. I did as Odysseus did: I tied myself to the mast. The body became the mast. The Sirens sang to my mind, and I held steady with my tools of Breathwork, Somatic Yoga, and Reiki, anchored in the body.
The Reward
-
Reiki became the healing balm, a way of returning to presence. I learned that a hero who comes back with the capacity to simply be with someone — hands, attention, nothing more — is carrying something the ordinary world is often starved for. What we bring home isn't a fix. It's the willingness to sit inside another person's pain without needing to solve it, verbally or otherwise.
The Return
-
Sharpening the saw, again and again, through breathwork and somatic practice, that's what let me complete the odyssey, from Bali, around the world, and back home again. Now, I'm not here to lead — only to walk beside others on their journey.
The Elixir, Shared
-
The longest journey any of us will take is from the head to the heart. Heal Thyself is what I carry back: a space, inspired by both contemporary trauma-informed approaches and sacred traditions, where people can reconnect with themselves, restore balance to the nervous system, and move gently — towards lasting transformation. The connection to God is a felt-sense experience in the body, in the heart. The heart remembers what the mind forgets, healing begins when we learn to remember again.
